Documentary Arts, Asia offers low cost or free photography, film making & writing workshops to NGO's, Activist, Refugees, communities & socially minded aspiring journalists.

Film Making / editing workshops in English, Thai or Lao

All requesting  parties are asked to house & feed their workshop instructors. Larger well funded organizations will be asked to cover transportation costs, etc.  If you found it really rewarding we always except donations to further our programs.

Want to study photography or another documentary art but this doesn't sound fit for you? Hire one of our teachers for a workshop or private lesson. A portion of the fees will be donated to DAA,  Everyone is benefited.

Do you know of an interesting event, place or project that needs more people to know about it?  

Let us know!  Depending on the timing, size & importance of the event we would like to train you to be able to tell the story. But some stories are too soon, too big or too important to wait.  

Check our list of members to find someone interested in and available for covering your event, place or project. Next contact us and we will get you in touch.   DAA will generally cover the transportation costs. The inviter is asked to house and feed the artist while on assignment when possible. 

With our online documentary stock library from all our projects and members we hope to provide high quality, but low cost images and footage for NGO's and independent media. 

This service will benefit the NGO's by making better posters, presentations & newsletters.  It will also benefit DAA because 30% of the sales will go to the center. The remaining 70% will benefit the member photographer. So everyone wins.

If an NGO can not afford our very reasonable prices we will consider waving the reasonable fees on a case by case basis.   

NGOs are also invited to join DAA and submit their quality photos.  Gain exposure for your projects and even raise funds to support them. 

Free gallery space for documentary projects.  Even if Documentary Arts, Asia had no part in the project we would like to open our gallery and galleries we have connections with to your high quality documentary projects.  We may even be able to cover printing costs. 

Free advice for showing your documentary project.  Free for all documentary projects, related to DAA or not.  Choosing what photos to show and general things about print sizes, framing, etc take experience.  Let us answer your questions to make the show a success with minimum effort.   Contact us for more information.

Our gallery and photography library in Chiang Mai may still be at least 2 years away. 

But we will start accepting books & DVD's now so we can fill the library when the building is finished. Donations accepted, every little bit helps. 

Short and long term photography equipment rental for documentary projects.

  We will soon have some cameras out on long term loan in Kachin & have one DSLR available for short term loans.

Donate your used photography gear or money so we can expand this service.

Offering mid to long term mentorship & workshops in exchange for volunteering.  We hope that many thai and other asian university students and newly graduated aspiring photojournalists, film makers & writers will join Documentary Arts, Asia this way.

  We will do whatever we can to develop their skills in the documentary arts and jump start their careers.  In exchange we will ask them to use their developing skill to take photos for DAA projects as well as teaching beginning classes and helping staff the gallery/library. 

In addition to people asking us to cover a story, our members have many ideas for documentary projects that main stream media have overlooked or just scratched the surface of. 

We hope to make more of these ideas into published projects by providing small grants to cover basic costs.

One of our primary organizational goals is to keep our overhead low so most raised and donated funds can go directly into projects like these.

Photos & footage from the projects will go into DAA's online documentary stock library. Further supporting Asian NGOs and independent media.

For editorial inquiries we will try to find one of our members who is interested to take photos for a reasonable cost

Also our talented members may be interested in your commercial photo assignments.  You get a talented photographer with little effort, the photographer get a job and DAA get 5% of the salary as a finders fee.  Everyone benefits.  Graduations, Weddings & small business are just some possibilities.
